Board Minutes 04-28-2008

In Attendance: Tom Delisio, Mick Sharkey, Bill Smith, Andy Larkins, Don Schneider, Shannon Bone, Tom Feie, Eddie Gregory, Ray Vaughn, Dan Bley, Darrell Rodgers, Mike Condon

Missing: Joe Brinkman, Bob Sagers, Sr., Kevin Larsen

  • Larkins called the meeting to order at 6:45 PM.
  • Larkins welcomes the new Board members.
  • Vaughn read the minutes of the November 7, 2007 Board meeting.
  • Moved to accept the minutes of the November 7, 2007.
  • Condon gave a brief summary of the new member class.
    • 21 members
    • All members passed the exam
    • Brief outline of class instruction
  • Condon stated that he would be starting the class later next year to accommodate the possibility of enrolling more members.  The class should start the Monday closest to October 23.
  • Vaughn was instructed by the Board to set up an e-mail group just for the new members to better communicate and keep these individuals more in the loop on rules questions and administrative responsibilities.
  • Vaughn presented the Board with a membership report (See Attachments).
  • Vaughn presented the Board with a suspension list (See Attached).
  • Vaughn provided the Board with a summary of Blue Book advertisers and the outstanding ads not collected to date.  The Board would also like to explore the possibility of getting more restaurant advertisers to put coupons in the Blue Book or on our association web site.  Vaughn will get a price for color ads and let Condon and Berns know so they may offer the upgrade to advertisers.  Vaughn informed Board that the book earned approximately $2,500 and cost approximately $1,100 to print.
  • Smith passed out a copy of the association financial statement and covered each line item on the statement.
  • Moved to accept the financial statement as presented.
  • Tom Feie provided a brief recap of the association sponsored hospitalities for 2007.  Vaughn stated that he would contact GCBOA and Butler County and confirm that the same format of shared hospitalities would exist in 2008.  The Board also suggested that sites on the east and west side of town be set up each week for officials to gather and share stories of that night’s games.  These would not however, be association sponsored.
  • Larkins presented Vaughn as the only candidate for the office of association secretary.
  • Moved to appoint Vaughn to the office of Secretary for the term of three years.
  • Larkins presented the candidates of Mick Sharkey, Cecil Young and Eddie Gregory for the office of Program Director.  Vaughn read the resume of Cecil Young.  The floor was turned over to Mick Sharkey and Eddie Gregory for a brief presentation of their qualifications for the office of Program Director.  The candidates were asked to leave the room while the Board deliberated.  Ballots were passed out to the voting members, collected and counted.
  • Moved to appoint Eddie Gregory to the office of Program Director for 2008 – 2009 season.
  • Board thanked Mick Sharkey for his years of exemplary service as program director and asked him to stay for the reminder of the meeting.
  • Vaughn presented a list of association rules meeting dates for the 2008 – 2009 season.  The Board asked Vaughn to check with the state on whether the meeting for October 27 would be allowed.  In the event that this meeting will not be permitted it will be replaced with a meeting on December 1.  The Board also advised Vaughn to move the meeting from Monday, November 10 to Wednesday, November 12 due to the problems surrounding entry into the auditorium on a holiday.
  • Moved to pay salaries for appointed Board members as follows:
    • Secretary $2,000
    • Treasurer $600
    • Program Director $500
    • Technology Officer $500
    • Rules Interpreter $300
  • Larkins outline the association tournament selection process for 2007 – 2008.
  • Moved to keep the same association tournament selection procedure for 2008 – 2009.
  • Vaughn presented a list of Board meeting dates for the 2008 – 2009 season.
    • Wednesday September 10, 2008
    • Wednesday November 12, 2008
    • Monday March 23, 2008
  • Moved to accept the board meeting dates as presented by Vaughn.
  • Vaughn and Smith summarized the qualifications needed to be a candidate for the OHSAA Hall of Fame.  It was decide that each Board member would send Larkins the name of any association member they felt should be given consideration for the “Hall.”  Larkins would compile a ballot of these candidates and send them out to the voting members of the Board for selection.
  • Vaughn read the qualifications needed to be considered for the Dan Tehan award.  It was decided that the Board would follow the same procedure out lined above (OHSAA Hall of Fame) for the selection of the Tehan award winner(s).
  • Moved not to provide gifts to association members in 2008 – 2009.

  • New Business
    • Bone explored the various methods that may be used to provide financial assistance to association members who would like to attend camp for professional development in the off-season.  The Board instructed Bone to present a formal presentation of these methods for their consideration.
  • Meeting adjourned 9:45 PM.
